Microsoft Releases Three Security Patches

Microsoft has released three patches for their Windows operating system earlier today. Two of the patches are considered to be critical security updates.
All Windows environments, from Windows 98 to Windows XP with the Service Pack 2 installed, are affected by one or more of the flaws. The first critical update corrects another Active X security flaw. A hole discovered in the Active X feature of Windows HTML Help would allow malicious users to take control of unpatched computer.
The second critical patch address an issue with the way Windows handles animated icons and cursors, with which an unpatched computer can be compromised. The third patch deals with a non-critical flaw, although, an unprotected machine can still be taken control of.
