We can't call it Longhorn anymore. Microsoft has formally renamed the long-awaited operating system to Windows Vista.
Microsoft disclosed a press release today, where the Redmond-based software and game console company has renamed the forthcoming Longhorn build of the new operating system to Windows Vista.
Vista Beta 1 will be available to developers on August 3rd. Vista becomes the official name for the client operating system, and Microsoft has established a new site for it.
More details about the system will be released in September, at the 2005 Microsoft Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles.
The company has described Longhorn, now Vista, as being built upon pillars. Each pillar comprises a part of the operating system platform. The Avalon pillar offers presentation technology, while the Indigo pillar handles system communications.
